stud rails

McNish PSR Rails (Punching Shear Resistor) studs are large headed shear connectors that are stud welded to flat steel bars (creating stud rails) and used for shear reinforcement in flat concrete slabs to resist the punching shear stress in concrete slabs. Studs of a predetermined length and diameter are designed and tested to engineered specifications in compliance with ASTM 1044, CSA W47.1-09, CSA W59 (Structural Steel Welding Standards) and AWS D1.1/D1.1M,. They are used to extend the column perimeter into the floor or foundation slab. This reduces the amount of reinforcing bar required in an area and column congestion while increasing the punching shear capacity at the base of the concrete columns, resulting in a significant reduction in slab thickness.

Benefits for using McNish PSR Rails:

  • Eliminating the need for column capitals and stirrups

  • Reduction of setup and installation time

  • Reduction of congestion around column/slab connections

  • Distribution of force over a greater critical area

  • Providing higher tensile strength and more ductile performance of the concrete slab

McNish Steel is a CWB Certified shop and our stud rails are manufactured to the highest industry standard using PSR studs.
